Job summary

Bonterra / NGP VAN is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Fundraising & Compliance Engineering team. You will help build and scale tools powering fundraising, compliance, and election readiness, supporting democracy at scale.

You will design and own features, mentor peers, and collaborate with product and cross-functional teams while leveraging ASP.NET, ReactJS, SQL Server, Azure, AWS, Redis, and ElasticSearch, including AI-assisted development practices.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in software engineering (typically 5 years).
• Strong understanding of web scalability challenges and solutions.
• Willingness to use AI coding tools to enhance development workflow.
• Comfort working independently on complex, less-defined problems and proposing solutions.
• Experience mentoring peers and participating in architecture discussions.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Architecture & Technical Leadership: participate in system design decisions for complex features and subsystems.
• Identify opportunities to simplify scope, reduce code complexity, and eliminate technical debt.
• Mentorship & Code Stewardship: mentor peers through code reviews and design collaboration.
• Feature Ownership: design and implement features for fundraising, compliance, and election readiness workflows; maintain third-party integrations.
• AI-Assisted Development: apply AI coding tools and write clear specs for AI-assisted development.
• Cross-Team Collaboration: work with product management and cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive solutions.
