Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking an experienced software engineer to design, develop, test, and support critical rules-based applications in production. You will work with Java, REST/GraphQL APIs, Kafka, and Kubernetes in a cloud-enabled environment.

The role supports production systems and involves collaboration with global teams across DevOps and security disciplines. Remote work is available from anywhere in the U.S.; in Minneapolis or Washington, D.C.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years IT experience with applications engineering and production operations.
• Hands-on experience designing, developing, deploying, monitoring, and supporting production apps.
• Experience with cloud platforms, APIs, event-driven automation, integration patterns.
• Java, Maven, XML, REST, microservices, and web services experience.
• SQL and relational/NoSQL databases experience.
• Scripting and automation with Python, Power Automate, Microsoft Graph API, and shell scripting.
• Familiar with AI tools in engineering workflows.
• Knowledge of US Healthcare insurance payer processing.
• Kafka exposure.
• GitHub Actions CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Developing and managing business rules in IBM ODM.
• Design and build REST and GraphQL APIs in Java.
• Design and implement Kafka producers and consumers.
• Setup deployment pipelines using GitHub Actions.
• Experience integrating Artifactory with CI/CD pipelines.
• Writing JUnit tests with high code coverage.
• Work with MySQL for high-performance schemas.
• Deploy services on Kubernetes platforms.
• Monitor with observability tools like Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide prod support.
• Participate in PLM release governance and CI/CD lifecycle.
