Job summary

Empower is seeking a Lead Site Reliability Engineer to drive reliability across its financial services platform. You will lead SREs, set standards, and guide infrastructure strategy while balancing performance and cost.

The role emphasizes incident leadership, disaster recovery, and scalable patterns in Terraform and Kubernetes. You will mentor teams, define SLOs, and partner with engineering, product, and security to align reliability with business goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7-10 years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering with demonstrated technical leadership.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and deliver complex projects.
• Expert-level AWS knowledge, including multi-region architectures.
• Deep Kubernetes expertise, including security and production-scale operations.
• Mastery of Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
• Strong software engineering background with production Python and/or Go experience.
• Extensive experience with Datadog and Splunk for observability at scale.
• Deep understanding of CI/CD principles and enterprise pipelines.
• Proven incident leadership and effective postmortems.
• Strong communication and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional reliability initiatives across multiple teams, aligning efforts with business priorities.
• Define and evolve SRE best practices, tools, methodologies, and standards.
• Architect multi-region AWS infrastructure balancing reliability, cost, and performance.
• Establish SLOs and error budgets for critical services to guide priorities.
• Lead major incidents as incident commander and coordinate postmortems.
• Design disaster recovery plans, chaos engineering, and reliability testing.
• Develop foundational infrastructure patterns using Terraform and reusable modules.
• Architect advanced Kubernetes patterns with multi-tenancy and security.
• Establish observability standards using Datadog and Splunk.
• Set CI/CD standards and pipeline-as-code practices at scale.
• Drive FinOps initiatives to optimize cloud spending while maintaining reliability.
• Mentor SREs, conduct architecture reviews, and lead technical trainings.
• Coordinate on-call schedules and reduce operational burden.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Security to align reliability with business needs.
• Influence architectural decisions and promote SRE culture across Empower.
