Job summary

Medal is seeking a high-competence infrastructure engineer to own the on-call rotation, drive postmortems, and work with engineering teams to ensure reliability at scale. You will manage Terraform-based IaC, scale Elasticsearch-backed features, and optimize relational databases in production.

The role requires strong incident response instincts, expert GitHub Actions CI/CD experience, and comfort in a fast-growing startup environment where durable fixes matter more than quick patches.

Qualifications

• Strong fluency in Terraform for IaC at scale.
• Hands-on Elasticsearch for user-facing features.
• Deep GCP skills: Kubernetes, VPC, IAM, Cloud Logging.
• Relational DB scaling: MySQL and PostgreSQL in production.
• Incident response instincts: calm under P0 pressure and postmortems.
• CI/CD with GitHub Actions in a production environment.
• Clear incident communication and actionable postmortems.
• Experience in fast-growth startups and scale-ups.
• Ability to distinguish durable fixes from temporary patches.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain reliable, scalable infrastructure systems.
• Lead postmortems to prevent recurrence and improve processes.
