Job summary

Colonna’s Shipyard, Inc. in Norfolk, VA, is seeking a skilled 1st Class Sheet Metal Mechanic to maintain, repair, and construct marine vessels.

You will fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal components according to blueprints. This onsite role requires advanced sheet metal fabrication, welding, and reading technical drawings; expect a physically demanding schedule with opportunities to mentor crew and collaborate across trades.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience as a sheet metal mechanic (marine/shipyard preferred).
• Advanced skills in fabrication, assembly, and installation; reads shipbuilding blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Measure, cut, bend, and shape sheet metal to create ducts and structural elements.
• Assemble and install sheet metal components on ships per blueprints with precise fit.
• Perform welding, soldering, and brazing to join parts.
• Inspect work to ensure it meets project specs and quality standards.
• Mentor crew members and collaborate with other trades.
