Job summary

Colonna’s Shipyard, a leader in ship repair, is seeking a 1st Class Shipfitter – Steel America for onsite Norfolk, VA. You will fabricate, assemble and install structural components aboard ships, reading blueprints and aligning frames, decks and bulkheads.

Proficiency in FCAW welding, metalworking, and working in confined spaces is required. This role often requires hours beyond a standard work week with limited travel. Join a team dedicated to quality, safety and hands-on craftsmanship.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of shipfitting experience in marine environments.
• Proficient in metalworking, welding, and blueprint interpretation.
• Strong understanding of ship construction and structural integrity.
• Able to lift heavy materials and work at heights in confined spaces.
• Proficient in Flux Core Welding (FCAW) with tack welding in vertical/overhead.

Responsibilities

• Cut and fabricate metal components using various tools and machinery.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
• Assemble and install bulkheads, frames, and decks to project specifications.
• Perform welding tasks using FCAW and tack welding.
• Inspect completed work to ensure it meets industry standards and project specifications.
• Collaborate with other trades to complete projects on time.
• Mentor department employees and other crew members.
