Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Software Developer in Test (SDET) for a remote position serving the Veterans Affairs department. The role emphasizes strong programming skills (C#, .Net, Java, Python) and rigorous testing across manual and automated methods within an Agile environment.

A Public Trust (MBI) clearance is required. Responsibilities include designing and executing test plans, developing test scripts, and coordinating with project teams to drive defect resolution and quality

Qualifications

• Strong programming skills in languages such as C#, .Net, Java, or Python.
• Experience on complex software projects with high-quality deliverables.
• Experience in both manual and automated testing.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum and SDLC.
• Writing and executing test cases, scripts, and plans.
• Knowledge of test automation frameworks and tools (Selenium, TestNG, JUnit, QTP, LoadRunner).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions).
• Familiarity with version control (Git, Subversion).
• Understanding of performance testing (JMeter, Gatling).
• Experience with defect tracking tools (JIRA, Bugzilla).
• Knowledge of database and SQL for validating data.
• Testing web apps, APIs, and services.
• Understanding of security testing practices and tools.
• Experience with functional, regression, integration, system, usability, and UAT tests.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

• Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans, cases, and procedures to ensure systems meet standards and end-user requirements.
• Develop test plans, schedules, and approaches.
• Write test cases and scripts; identify data for test scenarios.
• Conduct walkthroughs with Test Managers, Leads, and Developers.
• Perform and lead tests to ensure defect-free operation of IT systems.
• Verify work products using defined methods and environments.
• Document and communicate test results; support issue resolution.
• Create daily test metrics and reporting.
• Occasionally perform other IT system engineering activities as needed.
• Provide directions per policies and management guidance.
• Mentor and guide junior testers; prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Develop solutions to difficult problems; ensure alignment with objectives.
• Review completed work for adequacy; demonstrate good judgment.
