Job summary

Amazon Inc. is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist to shape sensing and compute hardware for robotics. You will drive ML and perception decisions for cameras, depth sensors, and edge compute, delivering production-ready solutions at scale.

You will work with top engineers to build robust perception systems, validate models on real sensors, and push the boundaries of robotic vision in fast-paced fulfillment environments, with tangible impact.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s with 6+ years applied research experience.
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language.
• Experience building software systems with deep learning and computer vision delivered to customers.
• Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or equivalent DL frameworks.
• Experience with 2D/3D vision tasks (object detection, depth estimation).
• Experience optimizing ML models for deployment on resource-constrained hardware (quantization, pruning, distillation).

Responsibilities

• Partner with hardware engineers and principal scientists to define sensing and compute hardware requirements.
• Develop and optimize CV and DL models for robotic perception for edge deployment.
• Lead ML experimentation and validation informing hardware architecture decisions.
• Design benchmarking frameworks for sensing hardware performance across use cases.
• Optimize models for production edge deployment to meet latency and power constraints.
• Drive research on next-gen perception capabilities with cross-functional teams.
• Collaborate to transition models from prototype to production and fleet deployment.
• Contribute to hardware roadmap deciding new hardware architectures or sensor modalities.
• Mentor engineers on ML best practices for embedded systems.
• Publish and present research advancing robotic perception.
