Job summary

Atlas in Duluth, Georgia is seeking an experienced Roadway Construction Inspector to support transportation construction programs. You will conduct inspections, sample materials, verify conformance with plans, and document findings in project records.

The role requires field work, occasional night/weekend availability, and ability to travel to project sites. A civil engineering degree or equivalent experience is required, with GDOT/ACI certifications preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field and two years of progressive transportation or construction inspection experience.
• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology and five years of progressive transportation or construction inspection experience.
• High school diploma or GED and seven years of progressive transportation or construction inspection experience.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and directly related experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent, standardized, and moderately complex inspections of roadway and structural construction projects to verify compliance with contract requirements, plans, and specifications.
• Inspect and test construction materials, including soils, aggregates, asphalt, and concrete, to ensure quality standards and proper mix designs are met.
• Evaluate pavement placement activities, including spreading, rolling, alignment, depth, and compaction, to ensure conformance with project requirements.
• Inspect roadway and structural construction work to confirm compliance with approved plans, specifications, and applicable standards.
• Monitor structural construction activities, including foundation excavation, culvert installation, piling operations, reinforcing steel placement, structural steel erection, concrete placement, and backfilling.
• Monitor the installation and maintenance of traffic control and erosion control measures to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
• Perform field measurements, calculations, and quantity verification to support contract administration and pay item documentation.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and organized project records, reports, and inspection documentation.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
