Job summary

CDM Smith’s CEI team is seeking a Field Inspector to perform inspections of highway construction at project sites across multiple locations. This on-site role requires reading plans, verifying materials, and ensuring work conforms to plans, specs, and provisions.

Candidates should have a high school diploma, relevant certifications, a valid driver’s license, and about 6 years of related experience. Domestic/international travel is expected.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 6 years of related experience.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Certifications from a State Highway Agency or National Entity (ACI/NICET) in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete if required by client or jurisdiction.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex and routine inspections of construction to evaluate if appropriate materials and construction processes are used; and that construction conforms to plans, specifications, and special provisions.
• Uses higher grade of equipment and performs complex calculations to perform construction inspection.
• Works under limited supervision or direct supervision depending on the demonstrated knowledge for the specific assignment.
• Reviewing drawings to prepare for the construction inspection.
• Understands the design of the construction that will be inspected. Documenting and communicating the results of the inspection and communicates to the supervisor.
