Job summary

Brex in San Francisco seeks a Risk Counsel to own legal response to disputes, incidents, collections and regulatory inquiries. You will coordinate with Legal, Compliance, Risk, Operations, and product teams to drive resolution and build scalable playbooks.

You will manage pre-litigation matters, oversee bankruptcy and account ownership disputes, supervise subpoenas, and advise on remediation programs. The role requires a JD, bar membership, and 6+ years of fintech or financial services

Qualifications

• JD required with active bar membership in at least one US jurisdiction.
• Minimum 6+ years of attorney experience, incl. litigation, collections, bankruptcy, regulatory investigations, or incident response.
• Experience owning disputes end to end and coordinating with outside counsel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Manage pre-litigation matters end to end, including demand letters and early case assessment.
• Lead resolutions of account and funds ownership disputes and related litigation risk.
• Oversee collections activities and ensure compliance with law and bank requirements.
• Manage bankruptcy matters for Brex customers and counterparties (Chapter 7/11).
• Lead incidents across the company from intake to root cause with cross-functional teams.
• Drive remediation programs and document completion of actions.
• Oversee customer outreach related to incidents/remediations and communications.
• Prepare responses to regulatory inquiries and information requests with Compliance and partners.
• Supervise subpoenas and third-party legal process, coordinating production and notice.
• Develop playbooks, escalation frameworks, and reporting for recurring dispute types.
• Advise product, operations, and support on reducing risk upstream
