Job summary

Brex in New York City seeks a senior employment lawyer to serve as a trusted partner to its People team, advising on daily employment matters affecting Brex’s global workforce. You’ll collaborate with senior legal leadership to guide policies and respond to disputes.

This role requires 5+ years’ experience, a JD, and bar admission, plus the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical guidance for non-lawyers.

Qualifications

• 5+ years counseling on employment law matters at a reputable law firm or in-house.
• Experience partnering directly with People/HR as their day-to-day legal advisor.
• JD and active bar admission in at least one US state.

Responsibilities

• Provide business-minded legal guidance to Brex’s People team on day-to-day employment issues, including performance management, terminations, recruiting, leaves, accommodations, compensation and wage/hour matters.
• Develop and implement policies governing Brex employees and contingent workers in partnership with People and senior Legal teams.
• Assist in managing employment-related complaints, disputes, litigation, investigations, and regulatory inquiries and charges (e.g. EEOC).
• Coordinate with outside counsel to ensure efficient, value-adding work for Brex on employment matters.
• Identify employment-related risks and recommend practical mitigations.
• Research employment laws across locations Brex employees work and monitor developments.
• Support delivery of employment-related training to managers and employees.
• Assist with subpoenas and records requests.
