Job summary

Friendship Place in Washington, DC, is seeking a Shift Supervisor to support participants in bridge housing. The role focuses on stability, coordination with external providers, and a Housing First approach. The lead advocate will mentor other staff and collaborate with the Assistant Director.

The position requires supervision experience, strong empathy, and the ability to work flexible hours. The role is based in Washington, DC with a Monday–Friday schedule and occasional overtime.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2 years of residential or shelter experience.
• Supervisory experience required.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain.
• Experience with diverse groups and trauma-informed care preferred.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Train new staff.
• Ensure 24/7 coverage with RA staff in collaboration with Operations Manager.
• Provide supportive services to individuals with complex needs.
• Deliver face-to-face contact and coordinate with case managers.
• Demonstrate empathy and flexibility to support wellness and independence.
• Engage participants to assess needs, preferences, and strengths.
• Monitor site safety and enforce policies at Valley Place.
• Oversee residents and housing site operations.
• De-escalate situations to ensure safety of staff and residents.
• Plan and organize site-based programming and events.
• Document incidents and progress notes within required timeframes.
• Maintain electronic participant records and essential paperwork.
• Attend trainings and professional development.
