Job summary

CannonDesign is seeking a senior-level Mechanical Engineer to serve as a lead for our mechanical engineering team on multifaceted projects across education, healthcare, and corporate sectors. You will lead HVAC design, ductwork, piping and equipment selection for large-scale buildings, while providing technical leadership and mentoring to designers.

Ideal candidates bring 10+ years of experience, a US PE, and strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes, with proficiency in Revit and energy modeling

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of related experience required.
• Current PE in the United States required.
• LEED accreditation preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
• Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering.
• Ability to serve in QAQC process and as an independent reviewer.
• Must be a critical thinker.
• Must be highly analytical.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong ability to interface effectively with clients and members of the design team.
• Able to effectively handle multiple projects.
• Must be a fully qualified professional able to perform work with a high degree of latitude, with some ambiguity in work.
• Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs (i.e. Revit, Trane Trace or Trane 3D Plus) required.

Responsibilities

• Perform and direct complex design of ductwork, piping and equipment selection for HVAC systems for large scale buildings; lead and mentor the engineering team.
• Interface effectively with clients and members of the design team.
• Serve in the QAQC process and an independent reviewer.
• Oversee, guide, mentor and provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team.
• Direct the work of less experienced staff including development and annual performance reviews.
• Oversee the use of Energy Model software.
• Prepare Revit/BIM modeling from schematic design to construction administration; model plumbing and fire protection as needed.
• Review and accept shop drawings for compliance with specifications.
• Attend Owner, Architect, and Construction Administration meetings with budget awareness.
• Lead value engineering sessions with Architectural/Engineering team.
• Recommend improvements to processes to improve quality and coordination.
• Conduct staff development activities including work planning and scheduling with the Project Manager.
• Respond to RFIs and review change orders in construction documents.
• Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe progress.
