Job summary

UnitedHealth Group's Optum is seeking a skilled medical coder to join our inpatient coding team. This role focuses on assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for hospital services and determining DRG impact, while adhering to official guidelines and established coding practices.

The ideal candidate holds AHIMA or AAPC certification, has 3+ years of acute inpatient coding experience, and delivers accurate, productive coding. Telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S. is supported.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Professional coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC (RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CIC).
• 3+ years of Acute Care Inpatient medical coding experience.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient hospital services and assess DRG impact.
• Abstract additional data elements during chart reviews when coding.
• Adhere to AHIMA and/or AAPC ethical standards.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity per Optum360 guidelines.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate.
• Stay up-to-date with coding knowledge through QM Manager and Coding Operations leadership.
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events.
• Review and track charts coded, held, or missing.
