Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a skilled inpatient coder to assign ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRGs for facility services. You will abstract data, maintain coding quality, and adhere to AHIMA/AAPC ethics. The role requires 3+ years of inpatient DRG coding experience, AHIMA/AAPC credentials, and strong Excel/EMR proficiency. Telecommuting is available within the United States, with full-time hours.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED (or higher).
• Professional coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC credentials (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC) to be maintained annually.
• 3+ years of inpatient DRG coding experience in an acute care facility.
• 3+ years of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and DRG coding with encoder.
• Proficiency in Windows Excel and various EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify assignment of ICD-10 CM/PCS, DRG, and abstraction per guidelines.
• Expert knowledge in Inpatient DRG Coding.
• Abstract data elements during chart review as needed.
• Adhere to coding ethics per AAPC/AHIMA.
• Maintain performance in coding quality and productivity as set by Optum.
• Query physicians when appropriate.
• Keep up-to-date coding knowledge via QM Manager and leadership materials.
• Participate in coding dept. meetings and educational events.
• Additional duties as assigned by manager.
