Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Grid Modernization Engineer for a fully remote role focused on strengthening the electrical grid through smart grid tech, AMI, DER integration, and grid analytics.

You will design, develop, and implement solutions, analyze performance data, and collaborate with IT/OT teams to ensure cyber-secure, compliant modernization efforts. A strong background in power systems and communication networks is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Master's degree focused on power systems or smart grids preferred.
• Minimum 6 years in power systems engineering with grid modernization.
• Strong understanding of load flow, short circuit, and protection.
• Experience with SCADA, EMS/DMS, AMI and DER integration.
• Familiarity with DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850.
• Data analytics for grid performance monitoring.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Design and plan smart grid technology implementations.
• Analyze grid data to improve reliability and efficiency.
• Develop DER integration strategies (solar, wind, storage).
• Evaluate AMI solutions including meters and networks.
• Design control strategies for grid automation and voltage control.
• Develop demand response program deployment.
• Collaborate with IT/OT for integration.
• Conduct studies and simulations of modernization impacts.
• Ensure compliance with standards and cybersecurity.
• Prepare reports and present findings to stakeholders.
