We are seeking a Senior Release Engineer to lead and govern the release management process across a diverse application portfolio for a company in the energy industry.
Please note, this role does not offer sponsorship in any capacity.
In this role, you'll serve as the central point of coordination between Software Engineering, QA, and Operations teams, ensuring releases are planned, tested, approved, and delivered with consistency and minimal risk. You'll help strengthen CI/CD practices, establish release governance, and drive reliable deployment processes from development through production.
Our technology ecosystem includes .NET, React, and PHP applications deployed through Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions, with automated quality validation powered by Selenium and Playwright. You will play a key role in bringing scalability, transparency, and operational excellence to our software delivery lifecycle.
We operate as an AI-enabled organization and actively leverage AI-powered tools to enhance engineering productivity. The successful candidate will embrace automation and AI-driven approaches to improve release management, testing, and deployment efficiency.
What You'll Do
- Lead release planning and execution across multiple products and development teams, establishing schedules, release calendars, freeze periods, deployment windows, and release approval criteria.
- Build, enhance, and support CI/CD workflows using Azure DevOps Pipelines and GitHub Actions, covering build automation, testing, artifact management, and application deployment.
- Oversee branching, source-control, versioning, and release methodologies, including trunk-based development, release branches, and semantic versioning across PHP, .NET, and React environments.
- Implement and maintain release quality controls by integrating Selenium and Playwright automated testing into delivery pipelines and ensuring failed tests prevent advancement.
- Coordinate deployments through development, staging, and production environments, including ownership of rollback plans and recovery procedures when issues arise.
- Facilitate release readiness meetings by monitoring Azure DevOps Boards, identifying blockers and risks, and confirming all required approvals are secured before deployment.
- Produce and maintain release documentation, change records, release notes, and audit-ready deployment histories.
- Collaborate with development, QA, security, and infrastructure stakeholders to streamline delivery processes, eliminate bottlenecks, and improve software release performance.
- Track and communicate key delivery metrics, including deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, and MTTR, using insights to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote a culture of automation, standardization, and dependable self-service deployment practices.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in release engineering, DevOps, release management, or related build/release functions, including 2+ years in a senior-level or leadership role.
- Demonstrated expertise with Azure DevOps (Pipelines, Repos, Boards, Artifacts) and GitHub Actions for continuous integration and continuous delivery.
- Strong knowledge of branching models, release strategies, and version management across multiple technology stacks and development teams.
- Experience incorporating automated testing tools such as Selenium and Playwright into CI/CD pipelines as required quality checkpoints.
- Working knowledge of the technologies being deployed, including .NET, React, and PHP applications.
- Understanding of modern deployment methodologies such as blue/green, canary, and rolling deployments, as well as rollback and recovery best practices.
- Strong communication and coordination skills with the ability to lead release decisions, facilitate go/no-go discussions, and manage high-pressure production release activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with container technologies and orchestration platforms, including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure and AWS.
- Exposure to Infrastructure as Code tools and practices, including Terraform and Bicep.
- Knowledge of package and artifact management platforms such as NuGet, npm, and Composer.
- Experience supporting organizations with regulatory, audit, or compliance requirements, including SOC 2, ISO, or similar frameworks.
