Job summary

Electric Power Systems (EPS) is seeking a Senior Relay Technician to lead protection and control testing, commissioning, and field execution for substation and industrial systems across North America. The role emphasizes safety, complex project management, and collaboration with customers and field teams.

The ideal candidate brings deep relay testing expertise, strong problem-solving, and hands-on experience with protective relays in transmission, generation, or distribution environments.

Qualifications

  • Pre-employment drug screen required for safety sensitive position.
  • Criminal background check required.
  • Overtime and out-of-town travel may be needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • Hands-on experience installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing protective relays in substations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot distribution and transmission controls.
  • Knowledge of relay test software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead job site safety briefings and enforce safety policies.
  • Analyze protection schemes for power circuits and systems.
  • Install, commission, test, and perform functional testing of substation control circuits.
  • Execute advanced end-to-end testing using relay test equipment and software.
  • Read and validate protection schematics and configurations.
  • Calibrate and ensure performance of electromechanical and microprocessor relays.
  • Perform complex troubleshooting across protection and control systems.
  • Lead root cause analysis for relay trips and disturbances.
  • Develop project execution plans and outage sequences.
  • Coordinate resources and field activities for project completion.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and commissioning documentation.
  • Mentor Relay Technician I/II and junior engineers.
  • Interface with customers and stakeholders to communicate status.
