Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Senior Substation Protection & Control Engineer to provide technical leadership and grow a regional team. You will lead protection and control project execution, mentor engineers, and support business growth while ensuring safe, reliable power solutions.

The role requires a PE license, a electrical engineering degree, and 15+ years of related experience, with travel to client sites as needed. Preference for candidates near major U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional engineer (PE) license.
• 15 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, delivery, and technical execution of high-voltage substation protection and control projects.
• Serve as a technical authority for protective relaying, control systems, SCADA integration, automation, and substation communications.
• Develop, review, and approve protection and control engineering deliverables (schematics, wiring diagrams, relay settings, panel layouts).
• Lead power system studies, protection coordination, equipment selection, and related engineering analyses.
• Ensure compliance with client requirements, utility standards, and CDM Smith procedures.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to support project delivery from design through startup.
• Drive engineering standards and continuous improvement across the team.
• Lead, mentor, and develop engineers and designers; support training and career growth.
