Job summary

US Foods is seeking a Senior Refrigeration Systems Engineer to design, optimize, and manage ammonia and Freon refrigeration, HVAC, and related facility systems across multiple sites. The role leads cross-functional teams, drives reliability, and supports capital projects with a focus on safety, efficiency, and long-term scalability.

You will mentor maintenance and engineering staff, develop standards and procedures, and collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, IT, and external vendors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance or related field or equivalent relevant work experience.
• 5 years of industrial refrigeration or cold chain engineering experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in ammonia and Freon refrigeration systems, HVAC/mechanical systems, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance programs.
• Experience managing multi-site operations and technical teams.
• Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, PSM, IIAR, energy efficiency and automation.
• Experience with CMMS systems, maintenance planning, and capital project execution.
• This role requires approximately >40% travel during the initial years.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation, optimization, and lifecycle management of facility and operational systems.
• Provide advanced technical expertise for infrastructure, automation, controls, mechanical, electrical, and integrated systems.
• Partner with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, IT, EHS, and vendors to drive improvements.
• Monitor system performance and develop solutions to improve uptime and efficiency.
• Lead root cause analysis and implement preventive/corrective actions.
• Develop engineering standards, procedures, and system specifications for consistency.
• Support capital projects, installations, upgrades, and startups from concept to handoff.
• Evaluate modernization strategies and emerging technologies for refrigeration.
• Ensure safety, environmental, regulatory, and company standards compliance.
• Mentor engineering and maintenance teams and coordinate external contractors.
