Job summary

Seattle Central College in Seattle is hiring a Recreation and Athletics Specialist 4 to manage recreation activities at the Mitchell Activity Center. The role directs staff, coordinates programs, and supports budget planning and facility operations.

The position is full-time, on-site, 40 hours per week, typically Monday–Friday with possible evenings and weekends. Salary ranges from $59,796 to $78,480 annually, commensurate with experience, and the college offers comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation, kinesiology, exercise science, physical education, athletic administration, or a closely related field.
  • 4+ years of full-time recreation experience (or 2+ years at the graduate level).
  • One year of administrative experience supporting program or facility operations.
  • Specialized expertise in fitness and recreation, including leading physical activity programs that increase participation across diverse student groups.
  • Strong customer-service with the ability to troubleshoot complex operational challenges in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven interpersonal and supervisory skills, including training and mentoring staff, supporting and building effective working relationships.
  • Experience designing and delivering culturally responsive, equity-centered programming for underrepresented populations.
  • Committed to continuous improvement and growth mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and manages sports and recreational activities for diverse populations in coordination with student committees and clubs.
  • Manages and coordinates ancillary services such as personal training and other fitness programming.
  • Oversees a sports/recreational program system with intramural, Esports, and campus activities.
  • Manages group exercise class schedules and evaluates staff performance.
  • Directs activities to foster leadership development through sports and social activities.
  • Collaborates with departments to design recreation programming for Seattle Central students and MAC members.
  • Produces class schedules and promotional materials to increase participation.
  • Maintains program budgets and tracking of expenses.
