Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer on the Exchange team to build and operate real-time trading systems powering institutional exchange, including matching engines, order management, market data, and funding rate computation.

You will own reliability end-to-end, write performance-critical code, and collaborate with Product and Infrastructure to deliver quarterly milestones while advancing Coinbase's mission to increase economic freedom.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in production trading or financial infrastructure systems.
• Backend proficiency in Java, C++, or Go with latency tuning for performance.
• Experience designing and operating highly reliable distributed systems processing high volumes.
• Experience partnering with Product and cross-functional teams to scope and deliver complex projects.
• Genuine interest in crypto and institutional markets.
• Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate low-latency trading systems spanning matching, order entry, risk, and market data.
• Own reliability and correctness of production systems 24/7, including incident response.
• Partner with Product, Infrastructure, and senior engineering leadership to translate strategy into milestones.
• Drive technical design decisions and build consensus with peers and tech leads.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code in a performance-critical backend (Java, C++, or Go).
