Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Exchange team within the Institutional product group. You will build and operate real-time trading systems, including matching engines, order management, market data, and funding rate computation for major institutions.

You will write performance-critical backend code in Java, C++, or Go, own end-to-end reliability, and drive quarterly milestones with product partners, advancing crypto-enabled trading capabilities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with ownership of production trading or financial infrastructure systems.
• Backend development with Java, C++, or Go, and experience with JVM or Linux performance tuning.
• Proven ability to design and operate highly reliable distributed systems at scale.
• Experience partnering with Product and cross-functional teams to deliver complex projects on timelines.
• Genuine interest in crypto and institutional markets; deep crypto experience is a plus, not required.
• Desire and ability to use generative AI responsibly to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate low-latency trading systems spanning matching, order entry, risk, and market data.
• Own reliability and correctness of production systems processing high-throughput data 24/7.
• Collaborate with Product, Infrastructure, and leadership to translate strategy into quarterly deliverables.
• Drive technical design decisions and build consensus with peers.
• Write high-quality, well-tested backend code focusing on latency and throughput.
