Job summary

FreeWheel, a Comcast company, seeks a Lead Software Engineer to steer the technical direction of the Buyer Cloud Ad Serving platform, a high-throughput backend system processing billions of ad auctions with single-digit millisecond responses. The role focuses on architectural leadership without people management responsibilities.

You will mentor engineers, define technical roadmaps with product and operations teams, and elevate engineering practices across multiple teams.

Qualifications

13+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years in a Staff or Lead Engineer role.
Expert-level proficiency in compiled/high-performance languages (C++, Go, Java, or Rust).
Distributed systems design, operation, and troubleshooting in production.
Deep understanding of concurrency, multithreading, memory management, networking, and Linux performance profiling.
Cloud-native services with observability (metrics, tracing, logging).

Responsibilities

Architect end-to-end architecture and execution of scalable, low-latency backend services.
Drive multi-team initiatives on platform reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.
Identify and eliminate performance bottlenecks in distributed workflows with strict latency budgets.
Partner with Product, Infrastructure, SRE, and Data Engineering to align technical roadmaps with business goals.
Establish engineering standards for design reviews, testing, and incident RCA.
Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through design coaching and code reviews.
