Job summary

CapMetro seeks a Chief Dispatcher in Austin to lead the rail dispatching function, establishing operating rules, certification standards, training requirements, and testing practices across all shifts in line with FRA requirements.

This role provides management oversight of dispatch operations, ensures regulatory compliance, and serves as escalation authority beyond supervisors, deputizing for the Manager, Rail Dispatch when needed to maintain safe, reliable service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
• Eight years of progressively responsible experience in rail, transit, or railroad dispatching operations.
• Two years of lead, supervisory, or standards-development experience across multiple shift teams.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage department personnel by planning, scheduling, delegating, and overseeing employee work assignments.
• Oversee dispatching standards, training, certification, and recordkeeping.
• Coordinate cross-shift dispatch operations and identify corrective actions.
• Support incident response and after-action reviews across shifts.
• Maintain liaison with the Manager, Rail Dispatch on staffing and compliance matters.
• Model professional conduct and safety leadership in the dispatch function.
