Job summary

The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is seeking a Transportation Engineer 3 (Construction Engineering) in New Haven. This role leads a team, oversees complex rail construction projects, and coordinates with consultants to ensure accurate cost estimates and payments.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management and at least three years of related experience; advanced substitutions and rail infrastructure knowledge are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management; 3 years transportation construction engineering experience.
• One year of the general experience must be at the working level as Transportation Engineer 2 for state employees.
• Substitutions allowed: PE/LS licensure, LSIT/EIT, NICET Level III, or Master’s degree substitution for experience.
• Preferred: railroad experience and knowledge of FRA standards; Compass/SharePoint/MS 365 proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Transportation Engineer 2 and oversee a team of engineers.
• Act as working lead on complex transportation construction projects.
• Develop and implement construction programs for rail transportation.
• Serve as liaison with consulting engineers; review final cost estimates and payments.
• Provide technical advisory support for construction projects.
• Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials for rail projects; oversee maintenance programs.
