Job summary

Tempus AI, a cutting-edge clinical laboratory, seeks a Lead QA Engineer to own quality strategy for in-house clinical software, including HIPAA-compliant order platform and ETL tooling. You will define test architecture, guide CI/CD test orchestration, and lead release readiness with evidence-based decisions.

You will mentor Senior and mid-level QA engineers, enforce automation standards, and ensure regulatory compliance across the portfolio while partnering with engineering and product

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software QA or test engineering experience, with 7+ years in test automation.
• Experience owning test architecture and automation standards across multiple applications or teams.
• Expert programming in Java and/or Python with test code treated as production code.
• Hands-on with Playwright and/or Selenium WebDriver and test runners (JUnit 5, TestNG).
• Experience with API test automation (REST Assured, Postman).
• Experience in CI/CD automation (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, Bamboo).
• Advanced SQL/MySQL skills and defensible test data management for regulated data.
• Experience with performance/load testing tools (JMeter, k6, Gatling).
• Cloud-native delivery (AWS, Azure) and containers (Docker).
• Observability tools (Datadog, CloudWatch) and log analysis for defects.
• Understanding of HIPAA, SOX, HL7, FHIR in validated environments.
• Mentorship of Senior/mid-level engineers; strong communication with leadership.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end quality engineering strategy across the application portfolio.
• Define and enforce automation framework architectures and reusable components.
• Oversee CI/CD test orchestration, nightly regression, and release readiness.
• Lead risk assessment, validation evidence, and quality metrics for leadership.
• Drive shift-left practices and design reviews for testability.
• Ensure HIPAA/SOX compliance and traceability from requirements to tests.
• Define quality metrics like flake/escape rates and MTTR with improvement plans.
• Mentor QA/SDET engineers and assist in hiring and onboarding.
• Set non-functional testing standards (performance, load, resilience).
• Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, and product leadership on architecture and releases.
• Hands-on development of automation for high-risk portfolio areas and validate deployments.
