Job summary

The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan seeks a Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney or Assistant Prosecuting Attorney DOQ. This full-time position reports to the County Prosecutor and offers a salary range of $62,400.00 – $114,400.00 yearly (DOQ).

The role involves reviewing police reports, handling arraignments, trials, and appeals, and upholding the Crime Victims’ Rights Act, with emphasis on integrity, courtroom readiness, and professional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and a law degree from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in Michigan.
• Strong knowledge of Michigan laws and regulations.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to present information clearly.
• Effective communication with public and colleagues.
• Ability to stand or sit in one position for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Review police reports and make charging decisions.
• Appear in court for arraignments, pretrial conferences, preliminary exams, motion hearings, probation violations, bond violations, and trials for misdemeanor, felony, and juvenile cases.
• Prepare for court by researching applicable case law and statutes; prepare and respond to motions and briefs.
• Appear for and conduct mental health hearings.
• Confer with defense attorneys, probation agents, and law enforcement.
• Discuss prosecution strategy with staff attorneys.
• Prosecute and defend appeals as assigned.
• Adhere to and enforce the Crime Victims’ Rights Act.
• Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
• All other duties as assigned.
