Job summary

Allegan County is seeking an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney to perform duties as directed by the Prosecuting Attorney, in accordance with Michigan Constitution and statutes. The role involves prosecuting a range of offenses and appearing in court to advocate for the People of the State of Michigan.

Starting Wage Range: $84,988 - $109,262 per year, based on experience; full-time salaried position with excellent benefits and opportunities for professional growth within the Prosecuting Attorney's

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school; member of the Michigan State Bar.
• Minimum two years of post-law school experience.
• Candidate must pass a drug screen including THC.

Responsibilities

• Prosecute misdemeanor, felony, juvenile delinquency, child abuse, guardianship, animal control, neglect, and mental incompetence proceedings and court cases.
• Perform on-call and warrant duties; respond to calls and may travel to various locations.
• Represent People of Michigan in criminal prosecutions at all stages; assist with civil lawsuits in Circuit Court.
• Appear in court to represent in child protection and divorce-related matters.
• Participate in specialty courts and Veterans Court; understand entry parameters and Swift and Sure Sanctions program.
• Provide education and legal opinions to law enforcement and other agencies; keep abreast of new laws and cases.
• Prepare appellate briefs; conduct research; present arguments to appellate courts.
• Mentor less experienced APAs; perform other essential duties.
