Job summary

Ursa Major is seeking a Staff Test Infrastructure & Controls Engineer to architect, integrate, and sustain ground test infrastructure for propulsion systems in Colorado. You will define system standards, lead cross-domain design decisions, and ensure safe, repeatable test campaigns across multiple motors and programs.

You will guide hands-on builds, provide cross-team oversight, and mentor engineers to improve robustness and data quality in real-time test operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years in propulsion testing or high-consequence hardware environments with leadership progression.
  • Experience designing, integrating, commissioning, or operating complex test infrastructure for hazardous, high-energy systems.
  • Strong proficiency in industrial controls, PLC-based architectures, NI DAQ systems, and CAD tools (NX/CATIA/SolidWorks/Inventor).
  • Deep knowledge of hazardous system domains (energetic materials, high‑pressure fluids, etc.).
  • Proven ability leading complex test campaigns with safety, readiness, and data integrity.
  • Ability to obtain ATF explosive permits and a Secret Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end architecture and lifecycle sustainment of scalable propulsion test infrastructure across multiple programs.
  • Lead design and integration of fluid systems and interface control across mechanical, electrical, and controls domains.
  • Define, design, and build industrial electrical and controls architecture for propulsion test facilities.
  • Own instrumentation and data acquisition architecture and data quality pipelines from field to control room.
  • Serve as the technical authority for static fire campaigns and test readiness criteria.
  • Partner with EHS to develop safety systems and compliance frameworks for test operations.
  • Influence technical strategy across engineering, manufacturing, operations, facilities, and programs to enable rapid iteration cycles.
  • Mentor engineers and provide design reviews, with a focus on reliability and robust data.
  • Plan long-term infrastructure evolution, multi-site facility architecture, and capital roadmaps for scalability.
