Job summary

Ursa Major in Colorado is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer within the SMS Systems & Mission Team to drive safety, reliability, and risk management for our propulsion systems. This role ensures the safe design and operation of fielded rocket motors and coordinates with DoD safety review boards.

You will work cross-functionally with systems engineering, mission operations, design, test, manufacturing, and program teams to implement robust safety strategies, perform FMEA/FHA analyses, and lead

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering.
• 4+ years in system safety, mission assurance, or systems engineering.
• Experience with solid rocket motors, propulsion systems, or defense aerospace programs.
• Familiarity with MIL-STD-882 and risk analysis methods (FMEA, FHA).
• Eligible for U.S. Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement mission assurance processes for reliability, safety, and performance.
• Coordinate with Weapon Safety Boards and prepare motor qualification plans and test reports.
• Lead hazard classification planning and approvals for motor shipments.
• Maintain risk registers and communicate risk across programs.
• Develop system safety requirements and perform FMEA/FHA analyses.
• Support end-to-end product lifecycle planning and flight test range safety.
• Lead failure investigations and reliability assessments.
• Collaborate with design and product teams to reduce product risk.
