Job summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems in Elkton, MD, is seeking an experienced Propulsion Engineer – Structural Analysis (Level 3/4) to support solid rocket motor development. You will perform structural analyses, build models, and present findings to internal and external customers.

Requirements include a STEM degree with several years of related experience, proficiency in FEA tools such as ABAQUS/NASTRAN/ANSYS, and the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance. Relocation assistance may be available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM with 5+ years of related experience for Level 3; 8+ years for Level 4.
  • Experience with FEA software modeling (ABAQUS/NASTRAN/ANSYS/FEMAP or equivalent).
  • Ability to present analytical results in oral and written formats.
  • Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills.
  • US Citizenship and ability to obtain Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct structural analyses in support of solid rocket motor propulsion system design and verification activities.
  • Create mathematical models to match the physics of the system under evaluation including proper analysis methods/tools, proper boundary conditions, and appropriate material properties
  • Assist project team in design of experiments testing to provide necessary data to support detailed analyses.
  • Help in interpretation of analytical results and develop recommendations pertinent to system improvement.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and presentations of work product to both internal and external customers.
  • Support technical assessments of test hardware and test data including validation of analysis
  • Support propulsion and subsystem IPT leads to ensure technical and cost execution of each system component.
  • Form close working relationships with the customer technical community and specific customer technical points of contact.
