Résumé du poste

Isar Aerospace SE in the United States (Pennsylvania) seeks a senior CFD engineer to own high‑fidelity combustion analyses for liquid rocket engines. You will define models, mesh and solve reacting flows, validate against test data, and drive design decisions for injectors, chambers and ignition systems.

You will develop premixed and non‑premixed models, perform RANS/URANS and LES where needed, and build automated CFD workflows.

Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, computational engineering or a comparable technical discipline.
  • Typically 5–10 years of professional experience in rocket propulsion with hands‑on combustion CFD responsibility.
  • Deep knowledge of fundamental combustion physics, chemical kinetics, flame structure, turbulence–chemistry interaction.
  • Experience modelling reactive premixed and non-premixed flows under rocket-engine conditions.
  • Proficiency in STAR-CCM+ and/or Ansys Fluent for complex reacting-flow simulations; meshing, solver setup, convergence, post-processing.

Responsabilités

  • Own and execute CFD analyses of reacting flows from model definition to recommendation.
  • Develop and apply premixed and non-premixed combustion models for rocket systems.
  • Perform steady/transient RANS/URANS and scale‑resolving simulations where justified.
  • Model injector and chamber flows including multiphase, real-gas, heat transfer.
  • Assess stability and operability; evaluate pressure oscillations and instability risks.
  • Build robust CFD workflows in STAR-CCM+ and Ansys Fluent with documentation.
  • Correlate simulations with test data and quantify uncertainty.
  • Translate CFD results into practical design decisions for injectors, chambers, igniters.
  • Collaborate with design, thermal, structures, test and manufacturing teams.
  • Plan analysis, review work, and contribute to roadmaps and risk retirement.
