Job summary

Markel Group seeks a senior Executive Loss Control Specialist to support property, inland marine and ocean marine risk control efforts in Chicago. You will collaborate with underwriting, claims and brokers to assess complex accounts and recommend actionable risk-reduction strategies.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree and 6+ years in Property/IM/Ocean Marine loss control, with NFPA/IBC knowledge. Expect about 25% travel, strong reporting, and the ability to train others.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Bachelor’s in Engineering, Risk Management or Fire Sciences preferred.
• Certifications such as P.E., CSP, ARM, CFPS or willingness to pursue preferred.
• Minimum 6+ years Property, IM & Ocean Marine loss control experience.
• Knowledge of NFPA, FM Global, IBC standards and risk controls.
• Strong MS Office and risk software skills.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Underwriting to select, retain, and grow a profitable book of business.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with Underwriting, Claims, RSS Team, Brokers and stakeholders.
• Complete on site, virtual and desktop risk assessments for Property, IM & Ocean Marine accounts.
• Identify and communicate risks, exposures, and controls to aid underwriting decisions.
• Write technically detailed reports communicating clear risk assessments and recommendations.
• Assist with risk control vendor utilization, quality control and management.
• Prepare and deliver technical training to team members and underwriters.
• Approximately 25% travel; learn and use new technologies for assessment and reporting.
