A leading legal team in the South Oxfordshire region is seeking a Senior Property Lawyer to drive significant regeneration projects. This role offers remote or hybrid opportunities, allowing for flexible management of annualised hours while contributing substantially to public sector growth and local development efforts.
Senior Property Lawyer
£56,821 - £62,445 | Remote or Hybrid Working | Annualised Hours
As Senior Property Lawyer, you’ll take the legal lead on some of the most ambitious development projects in Oxfordshire, from multi-million-pound regeneration in Abingdon to major land transactions and strategic commercial leases.
You’ll be the senior-most property lawyer in a small, capable team, advising councillors and senior officers, mentoring colleagues, and working on complex property matters that shape the very fabric of local communities.
Why This Role?
️Regeneration at the Heart of It
Be at the centre of exciting economic redevelopment across the region. You’ll lead legal input on land acquisitions, mixed-use development agreements, long-term leases, and strategic disposals; helping to shape the growth and renewal of the area.
High-Value, Complex Legal Work
You’ll deal with compulsory purchase orders, affordable housing projects, town centre redevelopment, and multi-agency infrastructure agreements.
Senior Role in a Small Team
You will be the senior figure in the property team, guiding colleagues and shaping direction without formal line management. It’s the best of both worlds: influence without the paperwork.
Remote Working with Flexibility
Your base is Abbey House, Abingdon but how often you go in is entirely up to you. Most of the team work remotely, and you’ll be trusted to manage your own time and output.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Leading on complex land and property transactions, both commercial and residential
• Drafting and negotiating leases, licences, deeds, development agreements, and CPOs
• Advising on affordable housing delivery and associated funding arrangements
• Supporting major redevelopment schemes, including partnerships and disposals
• Advising on footpaths, byelaws, highways, service agreements, and planning obligations
• Presenting at committee, advising councillors and heads of service
• Supporting and guiding junior colleagues in property law casework
• Stepping in for the Property Team Leader as needed
What We’re Looking For
A qualified solicitor, barrister, or chartered legal executive with a current practising certificate
Significant experience in commercial and residential property law
Confident handling complex, high-value transactions
Comfortable advising senior stakeholders and working independently
Excellent drafting, negotiation, and client-facing skills
A collaborative mindset and a real interest in the public sector mission
Private sector backgrounds welcome — if you’re looking to bring your expertise into meaningful public-facing work, we’re keen to hear from you.
What’s on Offer
Remote or Hybrid Working— outcome-focused, with real flexibility
High-Impact Work— contribute directly to regeneration and local economic growth
Professional Autonomy— senior role with influence but no formal line management
Supportive Legal Team— part of a growing, future-focused shared legal service
Secure, Public Sector Conditions— including LGPS pension and generous leave
