Job summary

Principal Financial Group is seeking a Project Manager for the Retirement and Income Solutions (RIS) team. You will organize and lead medium-to-large initiatives, manage multiple concurrent initiatives, collaborate with internal partners and external stakeholders, and mentor team members as a consultant for priority initiatives.

You will work within a modernizing tech stack to ensure robust, scalable, and secure solutions, with in-office, hybrid, and remote work options.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of project/program/initiative management experience.
• Proficient in project methodologies, with emphasis on quality and risk control.
• Strong leadership, communication, planning, decision making, and negotiation.
• Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels including external consultants and vendors.
• Proven relationship-building and collaboration skills.
• Able to work in a matrix organization with ambiguity.
• Knowledge of IT applications to identify process improvements.
• Proficient in PC and project planning software.
• Understanding of products/services affecting projects.
• Experience with procurement of professional services/products.
• May be on-call; travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Lead multiple complex, high-risk, high-visibility initiatives to successful completion, applying appropriate PM methodologies.
• Identify/manage risks, issues, decisions, dependencies; facilitate cost-effective decisions with leadership support.
• Demonstrate effective stakeholder management with timely risk awareness and progress updates.
• Lead activities with outside vendors; manage vendor relationships and procurement activities.
• Apply problem-solving techniques; present clear definitions and potential solutions with cost/benefit impacts.
• Mentor and coach less experienced PMs; share best practices and drive improvements.
