Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Project Engineer to serve as the engineering lead for complex generation projects, spanning conceptual design, procurement, construction, and commissioning. The role collaborates with internal teams, external consultants, OEMs, EPC contractors, and stakeholders to ensure safe, reliable and cost‑effective delivery.

The position includes both new-build and major retrofit initiatives (CCGT, Simple Cycle, solar, wind, BESS, environmental retrofits).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from ABET-accredited program with 2+ years of related engineering experience.
• Master's degree in engineering may allow entry at SG8 with 4+ years experience.
• PE license is encouraged/preferred for senior levels.
• Engineering Technology degree can satisfy the requirement if PE license is obtained.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate engineering activities among AEP, Developer, Architect Engineer (A/E), and OEMs for Generation capital projects.
• Schedule and lead engineering meetings with project stakeholders.
• Provide regular engineering progress updates to the project team and stakeholders.
• Develop and manage Engineering Work Plan and lead the Design Review process with RFIs.
• Travel to AEP generation facilities as needed.

Education

ABET-accredited engineering degree

Master's degree in engineering (ABET-accredited) may be considered for SG8 entry

Professional Engineer (PE) license encouraged/preferred

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology acceptable with PE license
