Job summary

Baker Street Recruitment is recruiting for a Project Director – Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to lead a utility-scale project from FID through COD. You will oversee safety, budget, and programme while coordinating technical and commercial workstreams with EPC and contract partners.

The role requires a strong engineering/PM background, Chartered status, and hands-on experience delivering energy infrastructure to a successful commercial operation.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience leading utility-scale BESS projects through construction, commissioning and handover.
• Experience progressing energy infrastructure projects towards FID or notice to proceed.
• Senior responsibility for budgets, programmes, contracts and multidisciplinary delivery teams.
• Understanding of BESS interfaces between battery systems, power conversion equipment, balance of plant, grid infrastructure and control systems.
• Experience managing major construction and equipment supply contracts, including variations, claims and delays.
• Experience overseeing grid connection, energisation and commissioning activities.
• Commercial judgement and understanding of how delivery decisions affect asset performance and investment returns.
• a relevant engineering, construction or project management qualification, or equivalent.
• Experience working for an infrastructure investor, asset owner, developer or independent power producer.
• Experience delivering EPC and multi-contract arrangements.
• Familiarity with battery warranties, degradation, availability and performance testing.
• Experience working with lenders’ technical advisers and independent engineers.
• Chartered status or a recognised project management qualification.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex infrastructure project from FID to COD with safety, budget and schedule accountability.
• Coordinate technical, commercial and delivery workstreams across stakeholders.
• Manage EPC contractors, battery and BOI contractors and partners.
• Oversee procurement, contracting and risk management with clear responsibilities.
• Provide regular reporting to investment teams and senior decision-makers.
• Ensure grid connection, energisation and commissioning activities align with milestones.
