Job summary

HMC Architects in Los Angeles, California is seeking a Senior Project Architect / Senior Technical Manager to provide technical leadership, mentorship, and oversight across architectural projects. This role drives high-quality documentation, resolves complex code issues, and supports project teams throughout design and construction.

The ideal candidate has a California architectural license, 10+ years of experience, and strong knowledge of codes and construction documentation.

Qualifications

• Professional degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Licensed Architect in California (required for Senior Project Architect designation).
• Minimum 10 years of experience across all phases of architectural practice.
• Strong knowledge of building codes, systems, materials and construction documentation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to travel as needed.
• Ability to mentor staff and lead technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and oversight for architectural projects across all phases.
• Supervise and mentor project teams, supporting professional growth and technical development.
• Resolve constructability, code, and agency approval issues.
• Collaborate with Project Managers on staffing, schedules, budgets, and work plans.
• Manage consultants, agencies, and project stakeholders.
• Lead best practices and lessons-learned efforts in the studio.
• Review documents for quality, coordination, code compliance, and contractual alignment.
• Support construction administration activities, including OAC meetings as needed.
• Assist with proposals, interviews, and marketing efforts.
• Ensure projects meet client expectations, contractual requirements, schedules, and budgets.
