HMC Architects in Sacramento, CA is seeking a Project Architect / Technical Manager to lead the technical development, coordination, and documentation of architectural projects from design development through construction documents. The role oversees teams, resolves complex code issues, and ensures quality and compliance.

The position requires a California Architectural license and a minimum of 7 years of experience, with a mix of design and construction documentation expertise.

Qualifications

• Professional degree in Architecture or related field.
• Active California Architectural License required for Project Architect designation.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience with demonstrated proficiency across all architectural phases.
• Strong experience in construction documentation, coordination, and quality control.
• Ability to lead teams, delegate tasks, and provide performance feedback.
• Knowledge of building codes, agency requirements, plan check processes, and budgeting.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong organizational and time-management abilities.
• Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical development and coordination from design development through construction documents.
• Resolve technical, code, and agency approval issues across project phases.
• Supervise and manage project teams (up to four staff) including performance feedback.
• Coordinate with consultants, clients, contractors, and internal teams.
• Review project documents for quality, accuracy, coordination, and code compliance.
• Support project planning including schedules, budgets, staffing, and fee coordination.
• Assist with work plans, hours estimation, and budget adherence.
• Manage government agency coordination, plan check comments, and approvals.
• Lead or participate in Owner/Architect/Contractor meetings as needed.
• Provide mentoring and technical guidance to team members.
• Participate in proposals, interviews, and occasional marketing efforts.
• Ensure projects align with contractual obligations, client expectations, and firm standards.
