Job summary

HMC Architects is seeking a Project Architect / Technical Manager to lead technical development, coordination, and documentation for medium- to large-scale projects in a hybrid San Diego setting.

The role requires a professional architecture degree, a California license, and 7+ years of experience across all phases, with strong CAD/BIM and leadership skills to drive teams and ensure quality, budget, and code compliance. Expect collaboration with clients, consultants, and regulators.

Qualifications

• Professional degree in Architecture (or related field such as Interior Design, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Revit drafting).
• Active California Architectural License (required for Project Architect designation).
• Minimum of 7 years of experience with demonstrated technical proficiency across all architectural phases.
• Strong experience in construction documentation, coordination, and quality control.
• Proven ability to lead teams, delegate tasks, and provide performance feedback.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical development and coordination of projects from design development through construction documentation.
• Resolve technical, code, and agency approval issues across all project phases.
• Supervise and manage project teams (up to four staff members), including performance feedback and evaluations.
• Coordinate and collaborate with consultants, clients, contractors, and internal project teams.
• Review project documents for quality, accuracy, coordination, and code compliance.
• Support project planning including schedules, budgets, staffing, and fee coordination.
• Assist with work plans, hours estimation, and budget adherence for assigned tasks.
• Manage government agency coordination, plan check comments, and approvals.
• Lead or participate in Owner/Architect/Contractor (OAC) meetings as needed.
• Provide mentoring, coaching, and technical guidance to team members.
• Participate in proposals, interviews, and occasional marketing efforts.
• Ensure projects align with contractual obligations, client expectations, and firm standards
