Atrium is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to oversee financial management, reporting, and analysis for multiple active projects. You will partner with Project Managers, Operations, and senior leadership to ensure strong internal controls and accurate performance reporting.

The ideal candidate has 5–8+ years in project accounting, advanced Excel skills, and familiarity with ERP systems. CPA/CMA is preferred; construction or real estate experience is a plus. Competitive benefits available.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full project accounting lifecycle: budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, revenue recognition.
• Prepare monthly project financial reports and variance analyses for management.
• Monitor project profitability and advise on corrective actions.
• Review invoices, POs, and subcontractor payments for accuracy.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and strong internal controls.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to maintain accurate job costs.
• Assist with month-end close, journals, accruals and reconciliations.
• Support annual audit documentation and process improvements.

Position Overview

The Senior Project Accountant will oversee financial management, reporting, and analysis for multiple active projects. This role will work closely with Project Managers, Operations, and senior leadership to ensure accurate financial performance, strong internal controls, and timely reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and experienced in managing complex project accounting environments.

Responsibilities Of The Senior Project Accountant

• Manage the full project accounting lifecycle, including budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and revenue recognition.
• Prepare monthly project financial reports and variance analyses for management review.
• Monitor project profitability and recommend corrective actions when needed.
• Review and approve project-related invoices, purchase orders, and subcontractor payments.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and internal controls.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to maintain accurate job cost projections.
• Support month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Assist with annual audit documentation related to project financials.
• Develop and streamline project accounting processes to improve operational efficiency.

Required Experience/Skills For The Senior Project Accountant

• 5 - 8+ years of accounting experience, with a strong focus on project accounting.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and project accounting/ERP systems.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
• Proven ability to analyze financial data and communicate actionable insights.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Experience/Skills For The Senior Project Accountant

• Experience in construction, engineering, real estate development, or other project-based industries.
• Experience with percentage-of-completion accounting.
• PMP, CPA, or CMA certification, or progress toward certification.
• Experience implementing or optimizing project accounting software.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
• CPA or MBA is preferred.
