Job description

The YMCA of Greater New York is here for all New Yorkers — to empower youth, improve health, and strengthen community. Founded in 1852, today the Y serves a diverse population of more than half a million New Yorkers who learn, grow, and thrive through programs and services at our 24 branches. Community is the cornerstone of the Y. Together, we connect active, engaged New Yorkers to build stronger communities.

To help fulfill our mission, we cultivate a culture of learning, leading, and collaboration to enhance community impact. Through our talented staff and “LEAP” career framework (Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, Personal Growth), we are committed to a people-first approach that fosters trust, inclusion, growth, and development for all.

The Staten Island YMCA Counseling Service is seeking a Senior Program Director. The Senior Program Director will ensure that the administrative, clinical day-to-day, and overall operations of the Branch’s programs and services are executed effectively, utilizing best practices while maintaining fiscal health and contract compliance. The role includes oversight of clinical and leadership staff to meet the program’s goals. Additionally, the Senior Program Director will collaborate with the Executive Director on strategic projects to advance the agency’s operations and clinical functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee clinical, programmatic, fiscal, and administrative operations of the Branch, including program development, quality assurance, strategic planning, and service delivery.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and retain volunteers, interns, and staff, including conducting performance evaluations, onboarding, and ongoing development.
  • Ensure compliance with funding and regulatory contracts, including program development, execution, and reporting to funding agencies.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures in collaboration with the senior team.
  • Maintain accurate and timely client records, including session and billing reports.
  • Deliver direct services and maintain a caseload when necessary, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Research and apply for new funding opportunities; develop and implement new programs, initiatives, and curricula, including grants.
  • Participate in association and community coalitions, citywide YMCA meetings, and other relevant groups.
  • Organize educational workshops, seminars, and training sessions for staff, community members, and clients.
  • Keep the Policy & Procedure Manual current with regulatory changes.
  • Conduct outreach, presentations, and networking to promote the agency and its programs.
  • Develop strategies to improve program participation and retention.
  • Coordinate with maintenance staff to ensure facilities meet contractual and program standards.
  • Track program metrics, including census, quality measures, and staff performance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • LMSW and LMHC required; LCSW and LHMC-D preferred.
  • 2-4 years of supervisory experience in addiction treatment and/or mental health; 3-5 years preferred.
  • Knowledge of staff supervision, program planning, quality assurance, and treatment best practices.
  • Understanding of OASAS regulations, fiscal management, and fundraising is preferred.
  • SIFI certification is a plus.

Benefits: The YMCA offers a variety of benefits including retirement, medical, paid time off, free YMCA membership, and more. Eligibility depends on employment status, tenure, and hours worked.
