Job summary

Selective Insurance in Chicago is seeking a production underwriter for our Small Business National Territory. You will manage new business with agents, drive profitable growth, and coordinate with regional underwriting and claims teams to deliver superior service.

The role requires strong marketing, negotiation, and communication skills, plus a college degree and 6+ years in underwriting or related areas. Travel to agency partners is expected.

Qualifications

• College degree preferred with 6+ years of underwriting, marketing, or field underwriting experience.
• 3 years Agency Management experience preferred.
• Must have valid state driver's license.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and internal systems.

Responsibilities

• Works with agents to write new profitable business and achieve agency goals; ensures continuity and high satisfaction.
• Market and underwrite small business and large accounts per underwriting criteria and standards.
• Make consistent underwriting decisions; adhere to pricing philosophies and facilitate easy business with Selective.
• Monitor agency results and pursue new business opportunities and growth.
• Develop professional relationships with agents, regional underwriting, claims and corporate teams.
• Promote and ensure usage of Selective systems (CLAS, PLUS, e-Select).
• Travel to meet with agency partners; travel may be about 5% of time.
