Job summary

ProAssurance seeks a Senior Claims Examiner to manage complex product liability claims, including investigation, coverage analysis, reserving, and coordinating defense counsel. You will present findings to management and work with cross-functional teams on line of business issues.

A JD or equivalent is strongly preferred, with five years' experience in handling complex product liability cases. Travel up to 25% and a valid driver's license required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; advanced education or certification (JD, CPCU, ARM, AIC or similar) preferred.
• Minimum five years' experience in handling complex product liability cases or at least seven years in the legal field with high technical competence.
• Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and relationship management skills.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Strong negotiation and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to travel up to 25% and be available beyond normal business hours.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Direct management of complex claims including investigation, coverage analysis, reserving, and defense coordination.
• Directs defense counsel on settlements, defense tactics, and expert witness selection.
• Ensure proper file documentation and prepare management reports.
• Attend trials, settlements, mediations, and insured meetings; participate in negotiations.
• Review and approve legal expenses and adjust charges as appropriate.
• Keep abreast of changes in law and procedures in supervised jurisdictions.
• Prepare and deliver presentations to internal stakeholders and conferences.
• Collaborate with department members on policy form research, development, and regulatory or product development work; perform special projects.
