Job summary

Lilly's Synthetic Molecule Design and Development (SMDD) seeks outstanding chemical engineering candidates to design, optimize, and scale synthetic processes for small molecules, oligonucleotides, and peptides. You will work with chemists, analytical scientists, and other engineers to deliver robust manufacturing solutions from lab to production scale.

The role requires deep technical know-how in reaction kinetics, heat/mass transfer, and process modeling, plus strong collaboration,

Qualifications

• Experience with design, development, and optimization of synthetic process manufacturing unit operations.
• Experience with modeling and simulation tools, data analytics and predictive analytics.
• Experience in batch and continuous unit operations; equipment design and integration; PAT system considerations.

Responsibilities

• Apply engineering fundamentals to design and optimize chemical processes for small molecules, oligonucleotides, and peptides to supply clinical trial materials.
• Design and execute lab experiments using kinetics, heat/mass transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and process modeling for scale-up.
• Develop proficiency across unit operations (crystallization, filtration, drying, milling, batch/continuous chemistry) to assemble complete manufacturing processes.
• Serve on cross-functional teams to translate lab-scale processes to manufacturing facilities.
• Operate with full compliance to regulations, SOPs, and safety procedures.
