Job summary

Lilly is hiring in Indianapolis for a synthesis-focused role within Synthetic Molecule Design and Development (SMDD). The candidate will develop chemical processes for pharmaceutical candidates, collaborating with chemists, analysts, and engineers to scale up production while minimizing costs and maximizing capacity.

Required are a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry (BS/MS in related fields) and proficiency with analytical methods (HPLC, GC, TLC) and spectroscopy (NMR, MS).

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or closely related organic chemistry STEM degree.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills with multi-functional teams.
• Attention to detail and problem solving in a fast-paced lab environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop chemical processes for pharmaceutical candidates to minimize cost and maximize production.
• Plan and execute lab experiments, analyze outcomes, optimize conditions, and document findings.
• Prepare materials for program teams and coordinate scale-up with chemists, analysts, and engineers.
• Apply analytical techniques (HPLC, GC, TLC) and purification methods (flash chromatography, crystallization).
• Operate spectroscopy instruments (NMR, MS) and interpret results.
