Job summary

Collins Aerospace in San Diego, CA is seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer (P5) to lead architectures for the GPS-Based Positioning, Navigation and Timing Service (GPNTS). This onsite role combines hands-on C/C++ development for embedded, real-time systems with technical leadership and customer collaboration.

You will mentor engineers, influence program direction, and work with government stakeholders to modernize and secure mission-critical software.

Qualifications

• Experience in C/C++ for embedded, multi-processor or real-time systems.
• Experience with Linux development, systems programming and Linux-based tools.
• Experience leading technical teams and guiding complex engineering efforts; typically requires STEM degree and 10+ years experience or advanced degree and 7+ years of experience.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Serve as senior technical authority for architecture and system design across the GPNTS navigation system.
• Apply advanced C/C++ development for embedded, real-time systems.
• Lead system-level integration across embedded platforms and shipboard networking environments.
• Provide engineering leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior and senior engineers.
• Advise program leadership and customers on architecture and modernization planning.
