Job summary

MiniMed seeks a Senior Principal IP Counsel to lead intellectual property strategy and advisory support across the company. You will report to the VP, Chief Intellectual Property Officer and drive IP M&A, litigation, and licensing activities while guiding R&D and business partners.

The role emphasizes delivering clear, actionable IP advice, cross-functional collaboration, and leadership in managing complex patent portfolios and external counsel relationships for a fast-paced medical device

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from a top-tier, nationally accredited law school with strong academic credentials.
• 8+ years of experience as an Attorney in intellectual property law.
• Licensed to practice in at least one US state or the District of Columbia.
• Deep expertise in IP M&A or IP litigation/freedom-to-operate and IP agreements.

Responsibilities

• Provide IP advice and counsel for MiniMed across global IP strategies and business needs.
• Lead and support IP M&A, litigation/freedom-to-operate, and licensing transactions.
• Manage IP risk, including global freedom-to-operate evaluations and opinions of counsel as needed.
• Direct patent litigation, pre-suit assessments, and patent office proceedings.
• Draft, negotiate, and advise on complex IP agreements (licensing, joint development, MTAs, acquisitions).
• Develop and implement patent searching strategies and monitor competitive landscape.
